How to Add a Heart Rate Overlay to Your Video

Full walkthrough of getting heart rate data from your watch onto your video.

You need two things: a FIT file from your fitness watch and a video from the same activity.

Step 1: Export your FIT file. Garmin: Connect → Activities → gear icon → Export Original. COROS: app → activity → export as FIT. Suunto: app → activity → export. Apple Watch: use HealthFit app.

Step 2: Go to metricsoverlay.com/editor. Drop your .fit file into the upload area.

Step 3: Drop your video file (MP4, MOV, or WebM) into the same area.

Step 4: Click + in the overlay panel. Select "Heart Rate". It appears on the video preview.

Step 5: Drag to position. Use settings to change style (minimal, bold, digital, gauge, analog, graph), size, color, font.

Step 6: "Smooth Data" toggle controls interpolation. On = smooth transitions. Off = exact per-second values from your sensor.

Step 7: Click Export. Choose H.264 video or PNG sequence. Select resolution up to 4K.
