How to Overlay a GPS Map on Your Video

How to add a GPS route map overlay to your video using MetricsOverlay.

Your FIT file must contain GPS data (latitude/longitude). Most outdoor activities record this. Indoor activities do not.

Step 1: Export your FIT file and upload it to metricsoverlay.com/editor along with your video.

Step 2: Click + in the overlay panel and select "Map".

Step 3: Choose a view mode. Overview shows the complete route with a moving dot. Follow mode zooms in and tracks your position.

Step 4: Position the map on your video. Corner placement works best so it doesn't cover the action.

Step 5: Adjust settings. Follow mode has a zoom level (radius in meters). Line thickness controls the route weight. Track smoothing reduces GPS jitter.

Step 6: The map renders entirely from your GPS coordinates - no map tiles, no internet needed during export.

Step 7: Export. The map is rendered on every frame with your position updated.
