How to Add Power Meter Data to Your Cycling Videos

Getting power meter data from your FIT file onto your cycling video.

Your FIT file must contain power data. This requires a power meter (pedal, crank, hub, or spider) or a smart trainer paired to your head unit.

Step 1: Export the FIT file from Garmin Connect, Wahoo app, Hammerhead dashboard, or wherever your ride syncs.

Step 2: Upload the FIT file to metricsoverlay.com/editor. The editor detects power data and makes it available.

Step 3: Add a Power overlay from the + menu. It shows watts, updated every second.

Step 4: Power data is inherently spiky. Smoothing averages it for a cleaner visual. Raw mode shows exact watts each second.

Step 5: Consider pairing with cadence and heart rate: watts + RPM + BPM gives a complete picture of effort.

For Zwift/indoor rides: export the FIT from Zwift companion app or website. The process is identical.

Running power: COROS estimates it natively. Stryd records it as a paired sensor. Both work with the power overlay.
